Water Cycle

This week the students are learning about the water cycle. In this lesson they are expected to describe and illustrate the water cycle.

The stages of the water cycle are:

• Evaporation
• Transpiration
• Condensation
• Precipitation

The round and round it goes activity lets you click on the different parts of the water cycle so you can learn more about each step in the cycle. This site also has a quiz, word search, and a poem that you can do after you finish going over the steps!

In the water cycle game you do the steps in order of the water cycle and review the terms evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. At the end you put the terms where they belong in the water cycle.

If you want to learn about the water cycle more in depth there is a fun game and presentation at the water cycle site.

You can build your own water cycle! Thirstin's water cycle activity will show you how to make your own water cycle and you can watch how it works in real life!

Living Organisms

The students are learning to identify characteristics of living organisms this week.

Six Characteristics of Living organisms are:

• Made of cells


• Use energy


• They grow


• They reproduce


• Respond to environment


• Adapt to environment

You can help Ben keep healthy by providing him with what he needs to grow in the site Health and Growth. Humans need water, exercise, food, and rest to stay healthy and alive. In this activity give the right amount of each need to keep Ben healthy!

Look at the living things site to spot and click on different living things in the picture provided. There is a total of eight different living things in the picture. See if you can find them all!

Take this quiz to find out if you can figure out if each of the pictures of different things are living or nonliving. Think about the six characteristics of living organisms!

Uses of Heat

In this lesson the student is learning to identify, predict, and test uses of heat to cause change such as melting and evaporation.

The site Heat, explains how heat is caused and how we use heat everyday for different things. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page there are some activities to do with your child at home. These activities are fun and a great learning experience all in one!

In the site changing state, you can see how heat is used to melt objects. You will add heat or cool down the materials to change their state.

At the melting and boiling site you can see what temperatures make different objects melt and boil. It shows a graph to help you see when the material boils and when it melts. It shows how heat is used to make the materials change states.

Collecting Information

Dear Parents,

We are now learning how to collect information using tools.
The tools that we are using are:

5. hand lenses

7. thermometers


8. balances

Learning how to collect information using these tools is part of our science TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). Your child should be able to measure and record their findings using these tools.

Here are some Internet sites that you and your child can explore together. All of these sites will help your child learn how to measure certain objects using these tools.

At the find the length site, you and your child can find lengths of lines in inches using a ruler. The game has a ruler and it will show you multiple choices and you will have to find the right answer!

At the time telling site, have fun switching the clock to the right time. This site has a self checking button to make sure you put the right time.

Weigh it up site has a scale to show weight. You try to balance the scale by putting shapes on both sides and you can check your answer with the check button.

The last site is number quiz, where you will measure temperature with a thermometer. This is a quiz to see how will you can read a thermometer.
